Education

The board of trustees approved Koloa Tonga Trust to seek available funds, donations, and fundraising to buy film maker gears and office equipment to be able to teach young people a fundamental and basic film-making and photographer courses in July 2023.

The CEO of Koloa Tonga Trust is a qualified film-making and photographer as he is currently studying for his Phd in film-making. He is committed to help young people who are willing to change their life from alcohol and drugs into creating documentary or become a photographer.

These fundamental courses are free of charge if you join and become members of the Koloa Tonga Trust.

RUGBY & SPORTS

Physical healthy body creates joyfulness and a happiness living. Young people are sharing that joyfulness through their talents and sports.

A healthy body avoid of being obese, diabetes, high blood pressure and other non-commute disease that affects so many Tongan and even the Pasifika people. Youth can also make use of their talents in rugby and sports to financially assist them and their own family.

We encourage young people to get involve with rugby and sports instead of getting to the bad habit of alcohol and drugs.

HEALTHY LIVING (WELL-BEING)

It is one of our responsibilities is to promote and encourage positive environment that could be well-connected with young people especially our overseas born Tongan here in Auckland.

To create an environment that their primary focus is addressing inequalities, safe, respect diversity, resilience and have a long-term approach in the well-being of young people and the overall human being.

A platform that could allow parents to easily communicate with the most vulnerable children through Talanoa approach methodology.

To encourage young people the importance of having a strong physical and mental health that could address the problems of anxiety, depression, bullying, alcohol and drugs abusive that could lead to suicidal frame of mind.

To promote the importance of preventing our Pasifika youth especially Tongan Youth from suicidal ideation so as those who attempted suicide in the most target area where needs are greatest. Not only that but to support the family after the suicide (suicide postvention) that may result in significant impairment of an individual’s thinking and emotion that could lead to suicidal behaviour.

tonga Language, culture & treasures,

Indigenous language is so significant to preserve with our children and grandchildren especially those who are migrated overseas. Lea faka-Tonga (Tongan language), hiva faka-Tonga (Tongan music), and ta’olunga faka-Tonga (Tongan dance) are so important to preserve. To promote the correct use of Tongan language through pronunciation, spelling and grammar. To create teaching, learning resources and materials that could assist with educating of our young people.

To promote the importance of our anga faka-Tonga (Tongan culture), lotu faka-Tonga (Tongan churches), and famili faka-Tonga (Tongan family). Teaching of the Faa’ikaveikoula (four golden pillars) such as Faka’apa’apa (respect), Lototo (humility), Tauhi Va (relationship) and Fakatokilalo / fetokoni’aki (generosity / reciprocity).

Lastly is to promote the importance of our Koloa faka-Tonga (Tongan Treasures) and the need to preserve our Tongan arts.
